Need a axe handle? Here is a wonderful company!
I live in Southwest Missouri and am a big fan of this Crosscutsawyer.com. I've bought a few axes at flea markets which need replacement handles and have been disappointed with what I've seen on the interwebs. So when I came across a handle maker within 45 miles of where I live, I jumped at the chanc...

Re: A totaly differnt (Inverse) method of filing
Thanks for the update on the experiment. I'm surprised by the outcome. I figured the leading edge would take the brunt of the dulling, not the flat portion. Oh well, that's why we humans take the risk of finding out what works and what doesn't. Now, how about doing a comparison betwixt a rusted, pit...

Chain saw question

But, the inevitable happened and the chain bit into a some dirt. Here is my question...How much contact with the dirt d...

Those are very nice saws. Would you say they are antiques or fairly new saws?

Which saw should I use?
I'll be adding a new living room onto the front of my house in the near future. Unfortunately for the trees in my yard, sacrifices must be made. Plus, the trees have been damaged by high winds and bug infestation. I have two sweet gums about 12" at the base, Two 60' cedars that are about 18" at the ...

Re: Re-saw a 5/4 oak board
Dang Jim, that M tooth saw sure is pretty. Yea, I've been away from this site and clicked on this thread for no apparent reason, and I was surprised that I was the original author. I haven't yet cut the board, mainly because I've moved into a house without a shop and my tools and wood are inaccessib...

Neat to see somebody restoring a m tooth two man saw. One thing which caught my eye was he did not joint the tops of the blade and I was wondering if that was necessary since the saw was curved.
Thought?

Re: Simonds Felling Saw (#513?)
Jim, was the etch on your 513 acid etched or painted on? I cannot tell from the pic, but some parts of the etch look like they have flaked off like some paint was chipped.
